Better access to Broomhall Way footbridge

Despite over a year passing since residents began moving into the Pear Tree Fields development off Taylors Lane, they are facing challenges accessing the bridge due to a narrow country lane with no pavements or street lights. The developer, St Modwen, has been delaying work on the footpath, much to the frustration of residents. County councillor Martin Allen has also tried to advocate for the Worcestershire On Demand bus service to stop at the new estate, but his requests have been denied by Worcestershire County Council (WCC).

The latest timeline for the footway to be open is apparently late January 2025, leaving residents feeling trapped and isolated. Cllr Allen is determined to support his constituents and push for improvements to be made. He questions the decision of the council and developer, highlighting the safety concerns of walking down an unlit lane with no pavement, especially for vulnerable residents.

St. Modwen Homes assures that work is underway to extend the boundary footpath and expects it to be completed by the end of January 2025. They also mention progress on installing a playground for residents to enjoy. The council acknowledges the concerns raised and is exploring options to include the area within the Worcestershire on Demand bus service coverage. The efforts of Cllr Allen and the determination of the residents continue as they advocate for better access and connectivity in their community.
