Hearts Soared on Main Road – The Lawns Celebrates VE Day 80 in Style

Our hearts are truly soaring here at The Lawns Nursing Home after a day filled with pride, joy, and unforgettable community spirit.

To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, we brought together generations for a very special parade—and what a celebration it turned out to be!

30 of our wonderful residents took centre stage, proudly seated in VE Day-decorated wheelchairs. Each was accompanied by a loved one or a volunteer, creating a beautiful symbol of unity—30 residents, 30 companions, and a whole lot of love.

But the magic didn’t stop there.

We were joined by 30 pupils from Kempsey Primary School, who marched alongside us with boundless enthusiasm, laughter, and flags in hand. Members of Kempsey WI and a host of amazing volunteers helped make the day run smoothly, and we can’t thank them enough.

As we paraded proudly down Main Road and back again, something truly special happened—the rest of Kempsey Primary School surprised us, lining the road with waving flags, big cheers, and smiles that lit up the whole village. It was a moment none of us will forget.

This was more than just a parade. It was a living tribute—a celebration of peace, resilience, and togetherness, echoing the spirit of VE Day in the most touching way.

From all of us at The Lawns:

THANK YOU to every single person who supported, waved, walked, pushed, cheered, or simply shared in this joyous moment.

You helped us create memories that will last a lifetime—not just for our residents, but for everyone who took part in this very special piece of Kempsey history.
