Snow Update: What the Met Office Is Saying for Our Area

Winter weather is really biting this week across the UK – and here in Kidderminster and the wider Worcestershire area, we’re feeling the effects of a persistent cold snap. With snow warnings and icy conditions in the forecast, now’s the time to be prepared and stay safe.

Local Forecast Highlights

According to the latest Met Office forecast for Kidderminster and Worcestershire:

  • Yellow weather warning for snow is in place from **Thursday 6 pm through to Friday midday – this covers our region and the wider Midlands.
  • A yellow ice warning remains active until around 10 am today, so expect slippery conditions on roads, paths, and cycle ways this morning.
  • Thursday night into Friday looks unsettled with heavy rain and snow showers, and gusty winds making travel more challenging.

Daytime temperatures will stay low, around 3–6 °C, with overnight lows dipping below freezing in places – ideal for snow and ice to settle.

Broader UK Picture

This current spell of wintry weather isn’t just local – it’s part of a wider cold Arctic airmass gripping much of the UK:

  • The Met Office has confirmed that snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures are set to continue across large parts of the country.
  • A named winter storm, called Storm Goretti, is forecast to bring heavier snow and stronger winds later in the week, especially on Thursday and Friday, potentially causing further disruption and drifting snow.
  • Snow warnings and icy conditions have led to travel delays, school closures, and local disruptions in other parts of the UK, with authorities urging caution.

What This Means for You

With snow and ice possible through Thursday night into Friday:

✔️ Plan ahead for travel – allow extra time, check local roads, and wear appropriate footwear.

✔️ Drive carefully – icy patches are likely until mid-morning today and after dusk later in the week.

✔️ Look out for vulnerable neighbours – freezing conditions can be tough for elderly or less mobile residents.

✔️ Stay updated – warnings can change quickly in winter weather.

Looking Ahead

Friday should see rain and snow clearing eastwards before a drier, frostier Saturday arrives. Another band of rain, snow, and wind may return by Sunday – so keep an eye on forecasts for any updates.
