The Kempsey Skatepark Working Party is trying to raise money to bring a skatepark to the village.
The group has already been given £2,000 from county councillor Martin Allen’s divisional fund, as well as another £2,000 from Kempsey Parish Council, who matched Cllr Allen’s funding.
According to Cllr Allen, the new skatepark will help give something else to the children of the village.
He said: “I am happy to support such a worthwhile project, there are many younger people in Kempsey who want a Skatepark and Pump Track, and I could see that there is a real need.
“Happily, I was able to give Kempsey Parish Council £2,000 towards this project and I am delighted to see the Kempsey Parish Council have matched my funding and have also given £2,000.
“I personally wish to thank them for having the foresight to invest in this project.
“There is a long way to go to raise all the money needed, but this gets this scheme up and running.
“Not every teenager is into football or cricket and this gives them a chance to skate locally.”
It is expected that the new Skatepark will be located on the recently acquired field that Kempsey Parish Council own at Pixham Ferry Lane.
