The local pub has been a cornerstone of communities for centuries. It’s a place where people can gather to socialise, enjoy a meal, and have a few drinks. We’ve been out and about sampling our village pubs.
This week we visited the Walter de Cantelupe Inn
Our Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 – Great Pub
Good choice of drinks available and locally sourced fresh menu available. We didn’t get chance to view any of the rooms, but the website is very easy to navigate. It’s quirky inside, but it really is a gem for the village, it features an open fire, warm welcome and great food offering as well as Sunday lunches. Opening hours vary throughout the year but definitely worth a visit.
About the Walter de Cantelupe Inn
Since opening in 1991, the Inn has continued to be proudly independent, enabling the owner, Martin Lloyd-Morris, to provide a personal service to locals, passers-by and those who have discovered the opportunity to linger longer and stay a night or two.
Whether you want to quench your thirst with a properly served drink after a long, hard day at work, sharing good-humoured conversation with other similar minded people; taking time to sit down and eat real, tasty food featuring where ever possible, locally produced fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese and more; or. . .
Stay in one of only three individually furnished and decorated bedrooms, taking a well-earned break away from the hub-bub of daily life, Walter de Cantelupe Inn takes great pleasure in extending genuine English hospitality to all in equal measure.
Nice place to stay or eat
We did an overnight stay here. Rooms are pleasant with sone good quality vintage furniture. En suite was very modern with shower. Bed was very comfortable. Tea tray with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits supplied. Fresh milk in the fridge.
Secondary double glazing ensured that any noise from the main road couldn’t be heard.
The bar downstairs has a nice ambience, with friendly customers who obviously visit very often. Bar staff were polite and friendly.
We had dinner, which was excellent. Cooked by the Landlord, Martin. His breakfast the next morning was equally good and plentiful.
