A man has been sentenced following the death of a 59-year-old man after an incident in Kempsey.
The case relates to an assault that took place earlier this year, which left the victim with serious, life-changing injuries. He was taken to hospital following the incident but sadly died some time later.
The incident itself happened in a typically quiet part of the village, which made the news all the more shocking for local residents at the time.
The man responsible, Jack Taylor (29), was later charged and has now been sentenced for manslaughter in connection with the case.
The charge reflects the seriousness of what happened – a situation that began as an assault but ultimately led to the loss of life.
This is a case that many in Kempsey will remember.
Back when the incident first happened, it left residents shaken. The area is normally calm and residential, and events like this are rare – which is why it had such a strong impact locally.
Even now, it’s something that continues to be felt across the community.
While Kempsey remains a safe and peaceful village overall, this case is a reminder that serious incidents can still happen – even in places where you least expect them.
Our thoughts remain with the family and those affected.
