Driver Climbs Onto Car Roof After Getting Stuck at Kempsey Ford

A driver ended up stranded and on the roof of their own car after attempting to drive through floodwater at Kempsey Ford.

The incident happened during recent flooding, when water levels at the ford rose significantly. Despite warnings, the driver attempted to cross and quickly found themselves stuck as the water surrounded the vehicle.

In a scene that’s becoming all too familiar, they were forced to climb onto the roof of the car to stay out of the rising water.

Local authorities have repeatedly warned drivers not to attempt crossing flooded fords – but incidents like this continue to happen.

It doesn’t take much for things to go wrong:

  • Water can be deeper than it looks
  • Strong currents can move vehicles
  • Engines can fail mid-crossing

And suddenly, what looks like a quick shortcut turns into a rescue situation.

For locals, this probably won’t come as a huge surprise.

Kempsey Ford has a bit of a reputation especially during wet weather and regularly catches people out. Whether it’s unfamiliar drivers or people taking a chance, it’s one of those spots that always seems to make the news when the water rises.

While it might seem obvious, it’s always worth repeating:

👉 If the ford is flooded – don’t risk it.

No shortcut is worth putting yourself (or others) in danger.
