Hold onto your suspension, folks – it’s road closure season, and the diggers are coming out like daffodils. Here’s what’s getting blocked, redirected, or generally faffed about with in the name of progress:
Taylors Lane – Marching into May (and June… and July)
Starts: 3rd March 2025
Lasts: A whopping 103 days
Why? St. Modwen Homes are doing that thing developers do – probably building, planning, or just rearranging earth for fun.
Where? Taylors Lane, 400m west from Norton Road.
Translation: If this road was a TV show, it’d be getting a full season – and possibly a spin-off.
Church Street Footpath Fiddling
Starts: 17th April 2025
Lasts: 14 days (or two weeks of mysterious footpath obstruction)
Why? WCC are reconstructing the footway. Let’s assume it needed a makeover.
Where? Between No. 42/44 Church Street and St Mary’s Close – basically, the scenic shuffle is now a scenic shuffle around the works.
Translation: Good excuse to wear wellies and take the long route to the postbox.
Old Road South – Drainage Drama
Starts: 28th April 2025
Lasts: 5 days
Why? Drainage and flood-alleviation – or, as we call it, “a very British reason to block a road.”
Where? From Pixham Ferry Lane to Meadow Closet.
Translation: It’ll be wet. It’ll be muddy. It’ll be inconvenient. But your wellies will love it.

Moral of the Story?
If you’re trying to get somewhere in Kempsey this spring, bring snacks, learn the back routes, and maybe get a bike. Or a jetpack. Jetpacks never get stuck in roadworks.
