Plans for New SEND School at Former DVLA Site Move Forward

Plans to turn a former office building near Worcester into a new SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) school have taken a step forward.

The proposal would see the old DVLA offices redeveloped into a specialist school, aimed at supporting children with additional needs something that’s in growing demand across Worcestershire.

The idea is to convert the existing building rather than start from scratch, creating a dedicated space for pupils who need more tailored support.

There’s been increasing pressure locally for more SEND provision, with many families currently having to travel further afield to access suitable education.  

So on paper, a new school like this could help ease that demand.

While the site itself isn’t in Kempsey, developments like this still have a knock-on effect for nearby villages.

More school places could mean:

• Less travel for local families
• More support staying within the area
• Reduced pressure on existing schools

But as with most developments, there are always mixed views depending on location, access, and impact.

Across Worcestershire, demand for SEND places has been rising steadily, with more children needing specialist support than ever before.  

That’s led to a push for new facilities, expansions, and alternative provision including projects like this one.

At this stage, it’s about planning and approvals, so nothing is final yet.
