Morrisons Daily Targeted

Residents may have noticed increased police activity recently following an incident at the Morrisons Daily store on Church Street in Kempsey.

At this stage, full details have not been confirmed. However, it is understood that the incident occurred while the store was open, rather than overnight as initially suggested. Reports indicate that individuals attempted to gain access to a safe inside the premises, though the exact circumstances remain unclear.

Despite the disruption and some damage, it is believed that those involved were unsuccessful and left without accessing the safe. In response, there are indications that additional security measures may now be considered, with some residents suggesting that the introduction of a security guard could help protect the store going forward.

Kempsey remains a lovely village with a strong sense of community. Many residents rely heavily on the Morrisons Daily and its Post Office services for everyday essentials and important local amenities.

However, there has been increasing discussion locally about shop and Post Office opening hours, which some feel have become less consistent over the past two to three months.

Adding to these concerns, the shop closed early again this evening. A notice from Ben, the store manager, explained that this will be temporary while staffing and other operational issues are addressed. For now, it appears the village store may continue to close earlier than usual.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward. A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We are appealing to the Kempsey community (and nearby communities) for information following a burglary at a shop on Church Street.”
