Could Kempsey Lose Morrisons Daily… And End Up With a Tesco Express Instead?

Big news in the supermarket world this week as Morrisons has announced plans to close around 100 Morrisons Daily convenience stores across the UK, with hundreds of jobs potentially affected.

The closures are believed to mainly affect former McColl’s stores that were converted into Morrisons Daily locations after the supermarket giant bought the chain in 2022. Many of the affected stores are reportedly “loss-making” or struggling locations.

That naturally raises a question locally… Could Kempsey’s Morrisons Daily one day be at risk too?

At the moment, there’s no indication Kempsey is affected, and Morrisons says convenience stores remain a key part of its future plans. But with Tesco Express, Co-op and Aldi Local-style formats continuing to expand across the UK, residents are already wondering what the future of village convenience shopping could look like.

Would you welcome a Tesco Express in Kempsey?
Or do you want to keep Morrisons Daily?

One thing’s for sure – village shops are more important than ever for local communities, especially for quick essentials, elderly residents and keeping village centres alive.
