Residents kept awake by noisy manhole cover on the A38

Residents living near the A38 through Kempsey have reported being disturbed by a loud banging manhole cover, with some describing the noise as sounding like “gunshots” as vehicles pass over it, particularly overnight.

The issue has prompted complaints from nearby residents, with many saying the constant noise has been affecting their sleep.

Openreach has acknowledged the reports and says it’s aware of the problem. Engineers are expected to investigate and carry out any repairs needed to resolve the issue.
