🚔 Immigration operation in Powick

Officers from Malvern’s Safer Neighbourhood Team assisted immigration officers with checks at a car wash in Powick on Friday 14 August.

During the operation, a worker was found at the premises who police say was already on bail in connection with allegedly working while not permitted to do so during an asylum application. He was arrested, and police say both the worker and the owner of the car wash will need to be interviewed.

Businesses have a legal responsibility to carry out right-to-work checks. The maximum civil penalty for employing someone without the right to work can be up to £60,000 per illegal worker for repeat breaches under the current rules, with a lower maximum for a first breach.

Police say they continue to work alongside immigration authorities and Trading Standards to tackle illegal working and help protect workers from exploitation across the Malvern Hills area.
