Police have been searching for a rather unusual suspect following the theft of two geraniums from a garden in Kempsey.
Yes, you read that correctly – geraniums.
The plants were reportedly taken from a property in the village, prompting an appeal to identify the person responsible for the theft.
While they might not be the most valuable items ever reported stolen, taking plants from somebody else’s garden is still theft — and understandably frustrating for the person who has spent time and money making their garden look nice.
The incident has certainly provided Kempsey with one of its more unusual crime stories.
Whether the missing geraniums are now proudly sitting in somebody else’s garden remains a mystery.
Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the time of the theft, or who has information which could help identify the person responsible, is encouraged to contact police.
