Mature Drivers Invited to Attend Free Virtual Reality Road Safety Sessions

Drivers aged 65 and over across Worcestershire and Herefordshire are being invited to attend a series of free road safety awareness sessions this summer using virtual reality technology to help people stay safe and confident on the roads.

The sessions are being organised by West Mercia Police alongside Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and the West Mercia Police & Crime Commissioner.

Attendees will experience a specially developed “Keep Driving VR” film through a virtual reality headset, designed to highlight some of the challenges that can naturally occur as we age – including changes to eyesight, mobility and reaction times — while also offering practical advice and coping strategies to help people continue driving safely for longer.

The sessions are informal, friendly and purely educational. Nobody will be assessed and no information is reported anywhere. Family members are also welcome to attend if they have concerns or questions about an older relative’s driving.

Sessions are taking place throughout summer 2026 at locations including:

  • Redditch – 9 June
  • Tenbury – 23 June
  • Droitwich – 9 July
  • Leominster – 14 July
  • Wyre Forest – 28 July
  • Ross-on-Wye – 11 August
  • Evesham – 18 August
  • Kington – 25 August

Morning and afternoon sessions are available at most venues.

Places are free but must be booked in advance as spaces are limited.
